Chrysalis is a community-based obesity prevention and management service to address the high financial and social costs of obesity. Well UK was commissioned to design and deliver the project as a pilot by Devon PCT with further funding from Department of Health Pathfinder fund to develop further pilots in wider Devon.
Chrysalis has a number of aspects, all focussed on working with families to help them develop changes in their behaviour that will prevent obesity. This includes increasing their physical activity, improve the quality of their diet and reduce their energy intake. To improve the likelihood of success for children and young people, the service has a strong focus on addressing families' lifestyles and the social settings that can lead to obesity.
In Exeter Well UK is working with GPs and School Nurses and has prepared a detailed programme of interventions and is currently engaged with a number of families.
Elsewhere in the county well UK is working in partnership with Home Start Teignbridge and HealthTec South West. Each programme is being developed as separate pilots with the needs of local clients at their centre.
